The aim of Tantra Yoga is to expand awareness in all states of consciousness, whether a waking state, a dream state, or a sleep state. To accomplish this we need to deprogram and reprogram ourselves. Having been born in a particular place and time provides us with our primary programming, which is influenced by heredity and our environment. If we are content with the results of this combination and live our lives with few problems, we will find no need for change. However, when we experience great difficulties in our lives or begin to seek something beyond our limited program, we will begin searching for a way to alter that program. Ignorance, intolerance, attachment to our animal nature, and selfishness can create obstacles to our personal growth. However, Tantra Yoga teaches us to identify the various factors that influence our thoughts and feelings and to transcend the obstacles. In refining our thoughts and feelings by means of these Tantric practices, we learn to create peace, harmony, and order within ourselves. In this way, Tantra Yoga teaches us a centredness that helps us in freeing our consciousness from its limitations.
